International AHC Day January 18 2026

International AHC Day January 18 2026

Every year on January 18, we come together to raise awareness of Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC). This day reminds us of the importance of informing, supporting, listening, and acting together.

On International AHC Day, we aim to:

  • Raise awareness and educate the public about AHC
  • Share the lived experiences of affected children and families
  • Strengthen connection, solidarity, and mutual support
  • Promote research, therapies, and hope for a brighter future

Hands of Hope

This year for AHC Day, AHC Europe joined the Hands of Hope campaign created by AHCF, a global campaign uniting the AHC community through a simple, powerful symbol — hands — to showcase connection, inclusion, and strength.

In the weeks leading up to January 18, families, patient organizations, and supporters around the world come together for a shared international campaign to build momentum and raise awareness before AHC Day.

Hands of Hope: how you can take part

  • Share the campaign visuals! National organizations and partners are invited to share the official Hands of Hope campaign image on their social media channels. The visual should remain unchanged, while the accompanying text can be adapted to your own language and audience.
  • Submit a photo of your child’s hands! Families are warmly invited to submit a photo of their child’s hands. These photos will be collected in the lead-up to AHC Day and brought together into one large, shared image, symbolizing unity, solidarity, and hope within the global AHC community.

On January 18, the collective image created from all submitted photos will be shared widely across international channels — a powerful reminder that no family faces AHC alone.

Creating Lasting Memories

Beyond the campaign, we're creating beautiful keepsakes that honor every family's contribution and preserve this historic moment in AHC history.

  • Virtual Keepsake Wall

A stunning digital gallery on our campaign landing page featuring every submission — a scrollable grid of hands from around the world, each labeled with family name and country. Visit anytime to see your family's place in this global tapestry.

  • Commemorative Book, Poster & Apparel.

After International AHC Day, download or order a beautiful printed poster featuring the complete "HOPE" mosaic and family submissions. Optional apparel and commemorative books will also be available — tangible pieces of community history to treasure forever.

Every gesture matters. Every hand extended brings hope.

Let’s stand together for International AHC Day and show the world the strength of the AHC community. 💛
